Pep Guardiola has revealed he made Erling Haaland one of the team captains following the departure of Kyle Walker.
The Norwegian joins Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Rodri as one of the nominated players to take the armband as and when required.

“When Kyle left, Kevin became the first [in line] and I nominate Erling to be a captain,” said the boss.
“When a player will be 10 years here, sooner or later you take on that responsibility.
“It’s nice that it’s the first time in the Premier League that it happened.”
Our No.9 appeared to hurt his knee towards the end of the win over the Magpies, but Guardiola is hopeful he will be fine for Wednesday’s game against Real Madrid.
“When he was down everyone was scare, but he got up and was smiling like always,” said Pep.
“I didn’t speak with him or the doctors. The doctors didn’t come with bad news so hopefully he will be fine.”
It is only the second time that Erling Haaland has worn the Manchester City captain’s armband since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, and the first time he has adopted the role in competitive action.
With Ruben Dias back in Manchester City training ahead of the mammoth UEFA Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday night, it would be expect that Haaland relinquishes captaincy duties at the Santiago Bernabeu this week.
